New Horizons
A Trail Guide for Student Organizations
New Horizons is a FREE program designed to serve PSU student organizations, athletic teams, and residence halls. These workshops are designed to promote positive change and development within organizations. Programs do not involve low or high elements on the challenge course and run between 1-2 hours. Programs are led by student facilitators. You can choose from programs listed below or you can request that a custom program be designed to meet the needs of your group. New Horizon programs can be scheduled during one of your existing meeting times or at another scheduled time.
To set up or inquire more about the program, please e-mail or call (535-2622) the New Horizons Student Coordinator, Malachy Fehlner during Office Hours on Mondays & Wednesdays 1:30 - 3PM.
Information we need to know about your group:
- Group name
- Group size
- Desired program dates and times
- Name of program your group would like (choose from the following programs):
- Orienteering Your Group - Starting off in the right direction at the beginning of the semester when there are many new faces in the crowd is important to any organization. This program will head your organization down an exciting path with name games and initiatives that bring fun into the process of group bonding with an emphasis on setting goals for the semester.
- Storm Clouds - Has your group ceased to function because of conflict? Or, is your group paralyzed out of fear of confronting poor behavior of one or more members of your group? Whether you see the storm clouds coming or if you’re in the middle of the storm, this program will provide you with the tools to work through the problems and weather the storm.
- Sunset - Does your group do a lot of events and need tools to reflect on the “nuts and bolts” of the activity. Learn some fun ways to debrief and reflect. Your group can assess its performance, find ways for improvement, and recognize the group’s successes.
- A Wolf Among the Pack - What type of leader are you? In every group all the participants bring something special to the group. Through this interactive leadership activity you will discover what type of leader you are. You will be giving and receiving feedback while identifying your leadership strengths and weaknesses.
- On Belay…...Climbing…..Climb - Does your group lack communication skills? When climbing, the commands you use help manage the risks. Communication is often the driving force that determines whether a group is successful. Through creative initiatives your group can develop better communication skills that will increase the overall success of the group.
