Wilderness First Responder

Wilderness First Responder Recertification / Wilderness First Aid

Dates: May 20 & 21, 2008

Lodging is available at PSU Cabin at Loon Lake for the first 8 people to pay for the course and indicate a need for housing.
Provides the knowledge needed to handle medical emergencies requiring extended care in remote settings. Emphasis is in prevention, decision-making and treatment. Those who successfully complete the course and pass the WFA exam will receive a Wilderness First Aid certificate good for two years. This course is taught using a combination of lecture, scenarios and rescue simulations. Cost includes lodging for the first eight people who register. CPR is offered separately on the first night of the course. Call for more details.

High / Low Ropes Facilitator Course

This course if offered for Graduate Credit, Undergraduate Credit and non-credit. The focus of this course is to prepare people to manage the risks while facilitating low and high challenge courses elements. Skills covered: Spotting Techniques, Equipment, Knots, Belay Techniques and Escapes, Hardware, Facilitating Games and Initiatives, Leading Edge Climbing, Element set-up – take-down, Gear retrieval, Rescue Sequences, Ascending / Descending Techniques, etc. You are on your own for food each day. Bring a daypack to carry lunch, sunscreen, extra clothing, food, water, etc...
