Res Life Frequently Asked Questions

These questions are meant to be a guide for parents after their students have settled into the residence hall. For questions regarding moving in and available services in the town please check out the Residential Life Frequently Asked Questions page at: http://plymouth.edu/reslife/faqs.html

Q: What should I do if my student wants to change rooms or halls during the semester?

A: Have the student speak directly with the Residence Director. A room/hall
change cannot happen without the student directly speaking with the Residence
Director about the circumstances surrounding the desire to change and there is paper work that needs to be filled out by the student directly in order for a room change to take place.

Q: My student wants to change their meal plan, what should they do?

A: Your student must go to the Residential Life Office located in the basement of
Mary Lyon and fill out a form in person. Please be advised that each semester there are deadlines in place for adding and dropping meal plans. Please check the Residential Life website for these dates.

Q: My student is having problems with their roommate, what can be done?

A: If a student is having a problem with their roommate, the first step we
encourage is for the student and roommate to sit down and have an open discussion about their issues. If a student does not feel comfortable or able to speak to their roommate on their own they should contact their Community Advisor (CA). The CA will initiate a roommate mediation to help the roommates come to an agreement to make their living situation work for everyone involved. If that doesn’t work then the student and their roommate can meet with the RD and discuss their options.

Q: It is the weekend and my student is sick, what should I do?

A: Your student should go to the hospital. They should either have a friend or if
necessary call an ambulance to pick them up. The hospital is only a five minute drive from campus and is very accessible.

Q: Will I be notified if my student breaks the rules within the residence hall?

A: You will be notified via letter if your student is found in possession of alcohol
or illegal drugs. For all smaller violations of policy you will not be notified.

Q: Can my student stay on campus during breaks?

A: Your student can stay on campus during winter and summer break for a small housing fee. If your student would like to stay during times when the university is shutdown they must contact their RD to see if the opportunity to stay is available in their hall.

Q: Is there a guest or visiting policy?

A: Yes. Students are required to sign in any over night visitors into the building. All visitors must have a form of photo identification. All visitors under the age of 18 must have permission from a parent or guardian to stay over night. Students are allowed 3 guests at one time and all guests must be escorted by the resident at all times.

Q: I can not get a hold of my student, what should I do?

A: You can contact University Police at 603-535-2330 or the residence director of the building where your student resides in and have them contact your student and advise your student to contact you.

Q: I have an issue or concern that I would like to speak with the residence director of my student’s residence hall about, what is the best way to contact them?

A: The best way to get in contact with the residence director of your student’s building is to contact them via telephone or e-mail during the week. There are certain times the residence director is guaranteed to be in the office. You can view these hours as well as the residence director contact information for each building at: http://plymouth.edu/reslife/reslife-staff/rds.html
