Advice on Reading from the Writing Center Staff

• If you are a visual learner, use a highlighter.
• For textbook reading, read the title, the concluding section, skim the subheadings, then read the whole chapter with the framework in mind.
• Allot time for reading and re-reading.
• If you have trouble remembering what you’ve read, use three steps:
  1. Underline or highlight the text.
  2. Take notes.
  3. A few days later, type up your notes to reinforce them.
