Tips for Visitors

  • Make an appointment if you can, but don’t hesitate to just stop by.
  • If you are working on a paper, consider visiting twice: once early on and again when polishing up the final draft.
  • Sign up for a weekly appointment with a consultant you like working with.

Things you may want to bring to the Writing Center:

  • An idea of what you would like to work on
  • An assignment sheet (if you were given one)
  • Relevant books, readings or research
  • Feedback from an instructor or other readers
  • Previous drafts of writing you are working on
  • Discs or your laptop
  • A willingness to work and learn

Things to keep in mind:

  • You don’t need to have a paper to visit. We can help you brainstorm, create outlines, maps or webs, or just talk about ideas.
  • We will work with you at any stage of your writing, from brainstorming a topic to polishing a final draft.
  • You can come with any kind of reading from any course.
  • You can drop in, call ahead and make appointments that fit your schedule, or make regular weekly appointments!

“When you are writing you must assume that the next thing you put down belongs not for reasons of logic, good sense, or narrative developments, but because you put it there.” —Richard Hugo
