An analysis of the business of mass media as an interconnected system of industries. In a media-saturated society as the United States, an understanding of the business operations of these media industries is imperative. In addition to investigation of recent ownership concentration and conglomeration trends, examination of the media products produced and distributed that consumers read, listen, and view are studied. The understanding of the business side of the media industries' production processes and products is needed by those who wish to work in these organizations, as well as the fields of broadcasting and film, professional writing, marketing, advertising, and public relations.
