PSU Alumni Association Student Representative

By Alex Herbst ’15

Four times a year, I’m up at 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning, heading to Heritage Commons, and ready to represent the Plymouth State student body. Why is this? My name is Alex Herbst, and I’m the student representative to the Plymouth State University Alumni Association. I have the honor of meeting with the 16 members of the Board of Directors and serving as the bridge between alumni and the student body.

What do I do as the student representative? I attend the meetings and share with the board members all the great things we as students are doing at PSU. In return, it’s my pleasure to share with students the amazing ways alumni are giving back to the University and making a difference in their home communities.

At the last Alumni Association meeting, one of the key agenda items was the Alumni Association Merit Scholarship, of which there are two this year. Each scholarship award is for $1,750, and applications are accepted through April 5, 2013. The application is available on the Alumni Relations website, in the Alumni Office at Holmes House, or by e-mailing Rodney Ekstrom.

Also on the agenda was this year’s Homecoming & Family Celebration event, scheduled for October 4-6, 2013. There are many opportunities for students to get involved and volunteer during the weekend’s events. A highlight of the weekend is the annual Barbara Dearborn ’60 Golf Classic, which will be held onSunday, October 6. Proceeds from the Classic support student scholarships.
