Paul E. Arold Memorial Scholarship

This endowment honors Paul E. Arold and, in his memory, funds scholarships. Awards are made to outstanding students majoring in Physical Education. The scholarship is based on merit and New Hampshire residency, with consideration given to financial need. It is awarded by the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.

Department of HPER Alumni Merit Scholarship

The purpose of this endowed fund is to provide a scholarship to one incoming student who intends to major in Athletic Training, Health Education, Outdoor Recreation or Physical Education. Eligibility will be restricted to incoming students who are ranked in the 1st quartile as calculated by the PSU Admissions Office. The following criteria will be used to assess scholarship candidates: admission as a full time matriculated student to PSU; intent to major in Athletic Training, Health Education, Outdoor Recreation, or Physical Education; proven leadership qualities; interest in providing community service; involvement in extra curricular activities. The HPER Scholarship Committee will assess candidates on the above criteria along with three letters of recommendation and a statement of the applicant’s goals. Students will be invited to apply to the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation Alumni Academic Scholarship.

Donna L. Ford Memorial Scholarship

(Until 2000, the scholarship award, based on financial need, was granted to an upper-class student who showed interest in gymnastics, wrestling, or lacrosse. The recipient was selected by the Director of Financial Aid.)

This endowment honors Donna L. Ford and, in her memory, funds scholarships. The scholarship award, based on financial need, will be determined by the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department’s Scholarship Committee. The award will be made to a deserving instate full time upper-class student who has been actively involved in HPER functions and is a serious student with average or above grades within the HPER major. The award will be made each spring and credited to the student’s account the following year.

EDA Outstanding Student Major

Each college/university in New Hampshire is asked to select two HPERD students (preferably one female and one male) to participate and  represent the college/university as their Outstanding Student Majors in the yearly New Hampshire Association in Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NHAHPERD) conference. The criteria is as follows: Students must be an undergraduate majoring in an HPERD discipline; minimum GPA must be 3.0; academic achievement other than grade point average; participation in HPERD organizations; involvement in college/university organizations; contributions to the major department; contributions to the community; professional leadership qualities; individual accomplishments/honors/awards. NHAHPERD then selects one or two Outstanding Future Professionals to represent New Hampshire at the EDA annual conference.
