About Professor Middlekauff 

Dr. Middlekauff has a strong interest in Earth processes, and the impact of humans upon it. He teaches the physical geography courses at Plymouth State; field work is at least a small component of most of them. He integrates the use of maps, observation, and data collection and analysis into his classes. Field courses give students the opportunity to observe situations in the field and apply material learned in classes to solve problems. Over the years, he has led courses to the Central and Southern Appalachians, Acadia National Park, Tanzania, East Africa, France, the Canadian Maritime Provinces, to Newfoundland, and the Desert Southwest of the United States. Often these field courses are in collaboration with other universities and other professors.

Dr. Middlekauff co-advises the Geography, Environmental Planning and Environmental Science and Policy Club. The club is active in area trail rehabilitation, organizing on campus presentations, and developing travel to regional and national geography meetings, most recently to the Association of American Geographers meetings in New York, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.
