Dave Bouchard is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW). He has been working in the helping profession for over 32 years primarily in community mental health and for the past decade directing a psychiatric emergency services department. Beginning ten years ago Dave joined the Plymouth State University Counseling Center as a part time counselor. Most recently he accepted a position as a full time Counselor/Emergency Services Specialist at PSUCC helping students in mental health distress. He is a volunteer member of the Disaster Behavioral Response Team in the State and for the past two years has been a member of the Leadership Team for Lakes Region Public Health addressing issues of substance misuse and suicide prevention efforts on a regional level.
Dave joins the program as a teaching lecturer for the graduate education program focusing in the area of Crisis and Trauma Counseling. He has worked in a variety of settings including outpatient, correctional, hospital ERs and ICUs conducting crisis assessments and stabilization for individuals of all ages across the life span who have presented in psychiatric distress. He has participated in crisis defusing and debriefings for both the community mental health center and DBHRT.
Dave has an overall humanistic orientation in his counseling approach. He has worked with a variety of populations including those with serious mental illness to individuals needing brief term help with, for example, adjustment issues, depression, anxiety, grief and loss.
