Dr. Maureen Horgan is Professor Emeritus of Music at Georgia College in Milledgeville GA, and a 2019 winner of the Beacon Award for performing and teaching from the International Women’s Brass Conference.  She holds degrees in Music Education and Trombone/ Euphonium Performance from the New England Conservatory (BM), Yale University (MM), and SUNY Stony Brook (DMA).

Maureen had a long career as a freelance trombonist in Boston, performing with ensembles including the Opera Company of Boston, Honolulu Symphony, Boston Philharmonic, Pro Arte Orchestra, Nashua Symphony, Monarch Brass, Jazzabelles, and with and for such musicians as Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, YoYo Ma, Henry Mancini, Brian Wilson, and others.  She performed with the New Hampshire Music Festival for 33 consecutive summer seasons and has recorded on several labels.  An active proponent of new music, she commissioned four work. Her solo CD of new works for trombone, “Moe’s Bit o’Blues” is distributed by the Centaur label.

Dr. Horgan taught trombone and chamber music for the New England Conservatory Preparatory School for 20 years.  Other teaching credits include Wheelock College, Plymouth State University, Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras, Concord MA public schools, and the University Lab School in Honolulu, HI. She has also taught and performed multiple times in Honduras, most recently in 2009.
