Admissions Requirements for Doctor of Education Candidates

Admission to the doctoral program is competitive and limited annually to one cohort of highly qualified individuals. The EdD degree is open to individuals who possess a master’s degree and at least five years of successful experience in education and who have demonstrated evidence of potential for professional leadership. Preference will be given to those with a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) or its equivalent. Applications must be received by March 1 of the year the cohort commences.

A completed doctoral degree application includes:

  • Your completed application, including the non-refundable $100 application fee
  • Official transcripts verifying that you’ve earned a minimum of a master’s degree from an accredited institution. In addition, include transcripts from any other college(s) or universities you attended.  All transcripts must be sent directly from the institutions to the Admissions Office.
  • A statement of interest and intent. In your statement, explain your motivation for pursuing graduate studies, indicate your academic area(s) of interest, and describe how your intended program relates to your personal and professional goals. Typical statements are between two and three typed, double-spaced pages in length. Please place a header on each page with your name and date.
  • A professional résumé or curriculum vitae
  • A professional writing sample which displays your research and writing skills
  • Three recommendations in support of your candidacy for admission that provide evidence of five years of experience, collaboration, and leadership in schools or education-related organizations
  • A signed New Hampshire Residency Confirmation form (NH residents only)
  • On-campus interview conducted by the doctoral admissions committee
  • Additional requirements exist for international students
