Celebrating 60 years!
I am pleased to welcome you to the first College of Graduate Studies e-newsletter! As PSU continues to expand the graduate programs both globally and virtually, providing an effective tool for people to keep connected is essential. Whether you are taking classes on-campus, off-campus, or online, I hope you will find the e-newsletter to be a valuable link to the graduate community.
The graduate programs have grown tremendously since they began in 1948. At that time, the Master of Education was developed to assist teachers working in area schools. Degree programs in mathematics education and special education were later developed in collaboration with area schools, the New Hampshire Department of Education, and Spaulding Youth Center. Currently, we offer five degree programs in the arts, sciences, business and education, including:
- Master of Arts (MAT)
- Master of Business Administration (MBA)
- Master of Science (MS)
- Master of Education (MEd)
- Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS)
Since 1992, the graduate program has grown from 300 students to approximately 2,600 admitted students. PSU graduate students can now participate in courses on campus, online, in hybrid formats, and at various local, regional and international off-campus locations. Weekend and week-long course formats offer students the opportunity to study in new surroundings, such as Waterville Valley, NH and Steuben, ME. PSU has developed over 90 partnerships with agencies, businesses, professional organizations, and school districts to help provide access, research opportunities, and flexibility in programming for graduate students.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Master of Education degree. An anniversary dinner and the first outstanding graduate alumni award ceremony are planned for Alumni Weekend, May 29-31.
The graduate program hallmarks highlight leadership and advocacy, scholarship and action/application, reflection and innovation, professionalism and service, and global awareness and social responsibility. These core values are demonstrated in the work of our outstanding faculty and students. I invite you to e-mail us with your accomplishments and highlights so that we can celebrate your work in the next e-newsletter. We look forward to sharing your stories!
