Addressing Critical Issues Challenging Health Care Professionals Today

Health Care Administration, MBA Faculty MemberHealth care is one of the largest industries in the global economy. In 2007, America’s total health care bill came to $2.4 trillion, or $7,900 per person. That number is expected to reach $4.3 trillion by 2017.* Along with the dizzying rise in costs, new medical technologies, medicines, and ethical dilemmas are routinely introduced to the health care agenda. In 1999, the Institute of Medicine generated a report indicating that up to 98,000 deaths were caused annually in the United States by medical error, raising awareness of a critical issue that had gone unnoticed for years.

Although efforts have been made since the 1999 report to improve this situation, primarily through policy and legislation, the need for new information and education is still critical. PSU’s MBA program with a focus in Health Care Administration is meeting this need.

Designed specifically for healthcare professionals, the MBA and Health Care Administration courses are offered online and are taught by leaders in the field. Constance A. Morrison, an attorney who also holds a doctorate in Nursing Practice, an MBA, and is a nurse practitioner and program faculty said, “It is critical that all healthcare professionals have an intimate knowledge of the law as it relates to their profession. In this day and age I can’t imagine working in this industry without it.”
