Reflections on Graduate Commencement

As we complete another academic year, it is important to take time to reflect upon the successes of the graduate community. On Saturday, May 10, nearly 300 students graduated from our master’s degree and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) programs. The Graduate Commencement exercises were beautiful and included several prominent guest speakers.

It was an honor to have senior vice president of the International Center for Leadership in Education and former Vermont education commissioner, Ray McNulty, deliver the commencement address. Renowned New Hampshire entrepreneur and inventor, Dean Kamen, received an honorary doctor of science degree during the ceremony. Famed New England author and storyteller, Willem Lange, was the recipient of a Granite State Award; and PSU education professor, Dr. Marcel Lebrun, received the Distinguished Graduate Teaching Award.

For the first time in PSU’s history, four family members walked across the stage and received their degrees on the same day. The Munz family: mom, Christine; dad, Edward; and two daughters Jennifer and Karen, earned degrees which focused in integrated arts, educational leadership, social studies, and art education, respectively.

This year’s 35 CAGS graduates, as well as alumni, faculty, and staff, honored the students’ achievements at the annual CAGS Celebration Dinner. Phi Delta Kappa inducted 25 new members on May 9, at a ceremony which included master of education candidates and educator certification students. The MBA luncheon capped off the commencement events and featured guest speaker, John Morgridge, chairman and CEO emeritus of Cisco Systems, Inc. The event included Delta Mu Delta honor society inductions, and the presentation of awards and certificates to outstanding MBA students.

The College of Graduate Studies is very proud of our outstanding faculty, students, alumni, and programs. Looking forward, we hope that you return to PSU and let us help you to reach your personal and professional goals.
