Grace Thomas Guptill heard from Hester Small Ames and Taschia Platek Dunlap as well as greetings from Helen Hurd Day ’35 from sunny Florida. Taschia writes that she had a wonderful time in November at the Elderhostel Program at Sedona, Ariz. They had lunch one day on top of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and another day drove and hiked to the Colorado River. One of her sons, who is a boat architect in Alaska, visited her in January and other family members joined them. Hester and Grace hope to have lunch together soon, weather permitting. Dorothy Pierce Main is still busy with flea markets, antiques and decorating their home. We would like to hear from our classmates.

We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Lillian Kelly Bomhoff last May in Pennsylvania. Her husband, Ben, is now living with their son in Amherst, N.H. Helen Chase Daniels and Janet Mitchell Woodbury, who get together occasionally, hope to visit him sometime this year. Helen was selected by the Lisbon Woman’s Club for the Honor Roll of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs for her dedicated service in 2003. She volunteers at the Lisbon Art Gallery and at the Grafton County Home. She is very fortunate to have her step-daughter, Yvonne Daniels Perrino ’74, and husband, Russell R. Perrino ’78, nearby. Ethel Bartlett Wood is thrilled with the arrival of twin great-granddaughters, Kylee and Sloan Wood, last May. Ethel and her son, Brian, visited them in Massachusetts last summer. Last fall Ethel and her friend, Betty, had a nice Missouri trip to Fulton where they visited the Churchill Memorial. They went to the old German town of Herman and to the Lake of the Ozarks. Ruth Stearns Ledbury is still in Rochester, N.H., and keeps in touch with Josephine Morse Swan’s children. Frances Piecuch Pudvah along with her son and his wife from Florida were in New Hampshire for three weeks last fall. Linnie Watson Giles keeps very busy with church and community activities. Her great-grandson, a first-grader, visits her each morning when he waits for the school bus. Dr. Norton Bagley volunteers for the New Hampshire Historical Society, doing genealogical work. He informed me that Father John J. Herbert has retired. It was nice to have a phone call from Erma Telfer Ahern. She and Henry had a nice winter in Florida. I also received a nice note from Vesta Tourville Farris—she is active and doing well. Virginia Littlefield Lewis is much better and keeps active. We’d love to hear from other members of our class.

George E. Bryenton and his wife, Ruth, moved to Laconia from Limington, Maine, a few years ago. They have five children,13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. George plays a little golf and volunteers at the Tilton Veterans Home, operating the store, selling candy, stamps and other conveniences to elderly veterans and wheeling the sunshine cart through the home. He retired from teaching in 1985. He occasionally runs into another classmate, Evelyn Westover Millar, who also lives in Laconia with her husband, John. Evelyn taught in public and parochial schools before her retirement. John worked at the Scott & Williams Mills; when he retired they started up a home business, knitting hats for newborns. They love to travel and cross-country ski. They have two daughters, Sally and Lynn Millar Richards ’77, and three grandchildren. Barbara S. Larsen and her husband, Harry, live in Salem, Mass., where Barbara grew up and where she held her last teaching job when she retired. Barbara babysits her three grandchildren who, she says, keep her young. She is on the bowling team and quite active in church work. Barbara taught business subjects until her retirement in 1988. Our last three reunions, 40th, 45th and 50th, received much help from Honey F. Reardon. She lives with her sister Katherine L. Reardon ’49 (president of her class). They have traveled extensively since their retirement, across Europe and the United States. Honey began her teaching career in Laconia, then entered the Sisters of Mercy and taught in parochial schools in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. After 23 years, she left the order, switched to public schools and taught special education for seven more years in Dover. She and Kay leave later this spring for a trip to southeastern states.

Helenjane Doyle Hanson was “speaking” with Sally Ayer Rossetti, who will be leaving for her annual visit to Bermuda. Doesn’t Bermuda sound nice? I am ready. Ah, but what would my cast mates think of my abandoning them? I am once more participating in a musical to be held this spring so I guess I’ll stay put. We will be meeting at Marjorie Blaney Blevins’, also in the spring, and we are all anxious to see her new digs. She and son Jim have an apartment at her daughter’s place. It sounds wonderful and Margie was able to bring most of her famous lilies with her. Theodore J. Houston lost his mother recently. She was 99 and while she had graduated from Keene, she was quite a lady and we forgave her. I hope I have as much energy and can contribute to the community as much as she did. I hope you all received the pamphlet the alumni office sent out with the biographies of your classmates. There isn’t much to write this time because I haven’t heard from you. For heaven’s sake, let us know what you are doing.

William W. Lance retired in 1989 as principal of Newfound Regional School. He and Rita live in Meredith, N.H., and have four children and eight grandchildren. All four of their children, a daughter-in-law, and a son-in-law are teachers, with five of them having graduated from Plymouth! Bill is on a committee planning a new community center in Meredith. After 11 winters, they sold their home in Florida and now remain in New Hampshire year-round. Sylvia Forbes Blakslee hasn’t let any grass grow under her feet! Sylvia earned her doctorate and retired from her last position as director of special services in the Oyster River School District in Durham, N.H. Over the years she has always found time to ski, not only in this country, but also in other parts of the globe! Sylvia has two children and enjoys her home overlooking the shores of Winnipesaukee in Tuftenboro, N.H., where she loves to entertain her grandchildren. She recently came out of retirement to accept an interim one-year position as director of the Strafford Learning Center. Carol Willis Aldrich was widowed a few years ago but keeps so busy! She sent a note with the following interesting information: “Several members of our class have been getting together over the years. Namely Lois Kretschmar Lindh, Dodie Greenwood Merrill, Nina M. Savitch, Shirley Solari Corrette and Elaine E. Fortin (now deceased).” Lucille Demers LaFlamme joined the others to celebrate Elaine’s life at her funeral last year. Carol has traveled to several countries since her retirement from teaching at the Washington St. School in Penacook, N.H. Her most recent trips were to Egypt in 2002 and to Casablanca, Morocco in 2003 to attend her son’s wedding! Carol spends her summer days at her cottage, while also kayaking, biking and walking. In winter, she loves both downhill and cross-country skiing. She’s a school and church volunteer while “really enjoying retirement”! Your class agent Jean Routhier O’Shea is still waiting to hear from the rest of you! If you’ve put off contributing for our 2008 class gift, please reconsider. A call to your committee contact can result in answers to any of your questions. Remember, an installment plan is available to fit your needs, or a one-time contribution of any amount would also be much appreciated (usually tax deductible, too!).

If you would like to be involved in any of the planning, please contact Gail Heffernan White or the alumni office. Most of the work can be done through e-mail, snail mail or phone calls. Let’s get some enthusiasm going, to show our special feeling towards our alma mater, through this gift! We can begin growing this gift, by noting: Class of 1966 Gift on the memo line of check or donation forms. Gail retired in June, after more than 36 years of teaching first grade, mostly in Newmarket, N.H., a Blue Ribbon school. She thus had time in September and October to visit Colorado with hubby, Joseph E. White ’68. They had not been that far west since 1968, and enjoyed the many changes they saw in the heart of America, as well as friends, relatives and alums along the way. Let us all hear what is happening in your life, since we parted times on campus! And think of getting more involved in alumni activities; then contact the alumni office on campus, they would love to hear from you!

If you know of several Plymouth alums in your area, perhaps you might contact Joe White or Joe Long at the alumni office on campus, for help in creating that kind of affinity group. Joe and Gail have joined the Greater Seacoast Chapter alumni group, and have enjoyed a few of the events already. Joe is the chapter’s newsletter editor.
