EXPRESSIVE HARMONIES: Art and Society Opening Reception

February 4, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Free

Join us for the opening reception of our new exhibition, Expressive Harmonies: Art and Society. Come enjoy music, movement, refreshments, and art making! Free and open to all.

Sarah Duclos will lead this fun and interactive event. Sarah is a freelance choreographer and dance educator, based in New England,  who holds a Bachelor of the Arts in Theatre and Dance from the University of New Hampshire. As a young dancer, Duclos worked directly with Liz Lerman Dance Exchange during their two-year residency leading up to The Shipyard Project – sparking a lifelong interest in site-specific, community-based dance work. You can explore more of her work at http://www.vimeo.com/neotericdance and by following @neotericdance across social platforms.

The Opening will also feature music by Jonny Peiffer. Peiffer has been working as a composer, performer, and teacher on the Seacoast of New Hampshire for over 20 years. He is a pianist, drummer, and percussionist and has worked extensively with dancers and theatrical companies. He leads many bands and projects, including the seven piece modern jazz ensemble Sojoy (Sojoymusic.com). He is a faculty member at Portsmouth Music and Arts Center.
The Opening Reception is funded in part by a grant from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts.
About the exhibition: Art serves a purpose in society, and is integral to everyday life and education from the process of making art to the experience of artworks for students of all ages. Living in rural New Hampshire can be isolating and arts experiences can be pathways for individual expression and for creating community. This exhibition includes work from Northern New Hampshire’s high school, college, and community education students. This exhibition is on view February 4 – 29, 2020 in the Silver Center for the Arts lobby gallery.
