PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Five members of the Plymouth State College football team were honored for their work in the classroom as well as on the football field.
Senior Chris Kelliher (Goffstown, N.H.) received the top honor, getting named to the Verizon Academic All-District I Team, as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America. This is his third straight selection to the All-District Team, and makes him eligible for the Academic All-America national ballot.
To be eligible for the Verizon Academic All-America Team, student-athletes must have at least a 3.2 grade point average and be a starter or important reserve. A Business Management major with minors in computer science and economics, Kelliher led the Panthers in tackles for the third straight season and has earned All-FFC honors the past three years. The Verizon Academic All-America Team will be announced in December.
Kelliher and four teammates were named to the Freedom Football Conference All-Academic Team – juniors Mike Bicchieri (Londonderry, N.H.), Jason Bordas (Elmore, Vt.), Tim Boothroyd (Amesbury, Mass.) and Chris Holton (Bellows Falls, Vt.). This team includes all student-athletes in the conference with at least a 3.0 grade point average who play significant roles on their team.
Bicchieri is a physical education major and reserve running back, Bordas is a business management major and backup running back, Boothroyd is a business management major and reserve linebacker, and Holton is a marketing major and backup wide receiver.
Plymouth State finished the season with a 7-3 overall record under third-year head coach Chris Rorke. The Panthers are co-champions of the Freedom Football Conference, sharing the title with Western Connecticut, each with 5-1 conference marks.
