All New England Band Festival at PSU Nov. 19

November 8th, 2007 by Adam

The annual All New England Band Festival, featuring 175 high school musicians, will culminate in a performance on Monday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Silver Center for the Arts on the Plymouth State University campus, under the direction of PSU Professor Gary Corcoran.

The concert will conclude a day-long event involving honor band members representing 63 high schools from all six New England states. The students were chosen from more than 300 who applied for the festival from a total of 70 high schools.

Selections were based on students’ individual musical achievements while attending the schools they are representing. More than two-thirds of those selected have been members of their respective all-state bands or orchestras.

Guest conductors for the 2007 festival are Mb>Mark Camphouse and Elena Roussanova Lucas. Both are nationally known composers of band music and have numerous published and recorded works to their credit.

The festival bands will share the concert with the Plymouth State University Symphonic Band, conducted by Gary Corcoran. The university band will perform works by Clifton Williams, Eric Whitacre, H. Owen Reed, John Philip Sousa, and Alfred Reed.

PSU students and faculty/staff are admitted free. All other tickets for the performance are $7 and will be available at the door.

If special accommodations are needed, please call the Silver Center, (603) 535-ARTS, in advance. For concert information call Professor Gary Corcoran, (603) 535-2495.
