WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption College scored seven unanswered goals Saturday night en route to a 7-1 victory over Plymouth State College in an ECAC
Northeast Conference ice hockey game.
PSC scored the first goal of the game just 39 seconds into the contest, but it was Assumption the rest of the way. The Greyhounds tied it up late in the first period,
then added three goals in both the second and third periods to skate away with the victory.
The outcome improved Assumption to 6-8-0 overall and 3-5-0 in Northeast Conference play, while PSC drops to 4-6-3 overall and 2-4-2 in the league.
Freshman Dennis Kane (Westford, Mass.) put the Panthers on the board in the opening minute of play, with classmate Rory Nickerson (West Chatham, Mass.)
picking up an assist. But Kevin Cotter got the equalizer for the Greyhounds at the 18:22 mark to make it a 1-1 game after one period.
Assumption’s Geno DeAngelis, Mike Yerardi and Scott Hersom tallied goals in the first six minutes of the middle period to give the hosts a 4-1 lead, and Bobby
Franciullo scored twice and Dan Roselando once in the third period for the Greyhounds to turn the game into a rout.
Assumption finished with a 43-31 advantage in shots on goal, including a 16-9 margin in the decisive second period. PSC freshman goaltender Chris Hyson
(Colchester, Conn.) made 25 saves on 30 shots before being replaced early in the third period. Classmate Joe McCabe (Saugus, Mass.) came on and recorded 11
saves the rest of the way. Mike Sweeney posted 30 saves in the win for the Greyhounds.
PSC continues its four-game road swing Tuesday with a non-conference clash at Babson (7:00 p.m.).
