Auditions for 2005 ETC production Ananse the Spiderman

The award-winning Educational Theatre Collaborative (ETC)announces auditions for the January 2005 production of Ananse the Spiderman. The play is an original musical adaptation of Gail Haley’s Caldecott-winning African trickster tale A Story, A Story.

The production will feature the talents of 60 local children and adults with PSU alumnus Robin
Marcotte as the trickster Ananse.

The play will be choreographed by Marilyn and Sekou Sylla from Bamidele African Dance and Drum and Randy Armstrong, world musician, will be working with Musical Director and composer Kenneth Roberts from Great Britain.

Ananse the Spiderman will be adapted and directed by ETC Co-Founder and Artistic Director Trish Lindberg, winner of the 2003 National Youth Theatre Director of the Year awarded by the American Association for Theatre and Education (AATE).

Performance dates are January 26 – 30, 2005.

Auditions are open to University students and employees and members of the community, including children. Approximately 60 performers are needed.

Auditions will take place in the Silver Cultural Arts Center (Main Street, Plymouth, N.H.) at Plymouth State University on the following dates and times:

Sunday, November 7

1 – 2:30 p.m. third and fourth grade students

3 – 4:30 p.m. fifth and sixth grade students

5 – 6:30 p.m. seventh and eighth grade students

Monday, November 8

5 – 9 p.m. high school, University and community members

Tuesday, November 9

5 – 9 p.m. high school, University and community members

Children in grades three through eight do not need to prepare anything in advance, and they will be auditioned in groups.

High school and University students and community members must call Brenda Gleich at (603) 535-2803 to schedule an individual audition time. They should bring music and be prepared to sing and read from the script.
