The annual All New England Band Festival, featuring 175 high school musicians, will culminate in a performance at 7 p.m. Monday, November 22 at the Silver Cultural Arts Center on the Plymouth State University campus.
The concert will conclude a day-long event involving honor band members representing 60 high schools from all six New England states.
The students were chosen from more than 400 who applied for the festival from a total of 80 high schools. Selections were based on students’ individual musical achievements while attending the schools they are representing. More than two-thirds of those selected have been members of their respective all-state bands or orchestras.
Guest conductorsfor the 2004 festival are Brian Balmages and Samuel R. Hazo. Both are nationally known composers of band music and have numerous published and recorded works to their credit.
The festival bands will share the concert with the Plymouth State University Symphonic Band, conducted by Professor Gary Corcoran. The University band will perform works by Alfred Reed. John Gibson, and Sergei Prokofieff as well as works by guest conductors Balmages and Hazo.
Tickets for the performance are $7 and will be available at the door. PSU students, faculty and staff are admitted free. Call (603) 535-ARTS for more information. If special accommodations are needed, please call in advance.
