LEICESTER, Mass. – Becker College scored four runs in both the second and sixth innings Thursday, and went on to post its first baseball victory of the year with an 8-3 non-conference decision over Plymouth State University.
Juniors Kevin Eldridge (Billerica, Mass.) and David Harbec (Windham, Conn.) led the Hawks with two hits apiece. Eldridge helped start the second-inning rally with a two-run home run, and Harbec contributed a two-run single in the second and a two-run double in the sixth. Sophomore righthander Rory McDonald (East Longmeadow, Mass.) earned the victory for Becker (1-15) with a complete-game effort, allowing only five hits, one walk and two earned runs while striking out six.
Plymouth State scored its first run in the fourth inning when junior Derek Guimond (Lewiston, Maine) doubled and later scored on a wild pitch. The Panthers plated two more runs in the seventh on an RBI single by freshman Steve Campo (Londonderry, N.H.) and a sacrifice fly by junior Matt Gabellieri (Lincoln, R.I.).
PSU, 1-15, returns to Little East Conference action Saturday with a twinbill at defending champion Eastern Connecticut (12:00 p.m.).
