PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Becker College staged a three-run rally in the ninth inning Monday afternoon and defeated Plymouth State University, 9-6, in a non-conference baseball game at Panther Park.
PSU came from behind twice to tie the game, scoring two runs in the fifth inning to knot the game at 3-3, and plating three runs in the seventh to even the score at 6-6. But the Hawks got hits from six of the first seven batters in the ninth inning to pull out the win. Becker improves to 12-10 overall, while PSU falls to 9-17.
Sophomores Keith Renaud (Southbridge, Mass.) and Kevin Renaud (Southbridge, Mass.) led the Hawks with three hits and two RBI apiece, with each also scoring three times. Senior Devin Caron (Portland, Maine) also drove in two runs for Becker, and freshman Matt Bartlett (Melrose, Mass.) cracked his first home run of the season.
Sophomore Josh Labossiere (Lincoln, R.I.) continued his strong play for the Panthers, going 3-for-3 and reaching base five times on two singles, a triple, a walk and catcher’s interference. Sophomore Brandon Hodge (Bradford, Vt.) collected two hits and three RBI, and senior Adam Kobeski (Walpole, Mass.) added a pair of singles.
Sophomore Bill Holden (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) pitched two innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win and improve to 2-0, and junior Ryan Pacyna (New Britain, Conn.) pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save.
PSU returns to Little East Conference action Wednesday with a visit to league-leading Keene State (3:30 p.m.) Becker returns home to host Rivier College Tuesday at Assumption College (3:30 p.m.)
