The Silver Series of Performing Arts at Plymouth State University invites you to get in the holiday mood with the Boston Brass All-Stars Big Band Holiday Show, at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 in the Hanaway Theatre.
The Boston Brass has expanded their trademark entertainment by teaming up with all-star brass players from around the world to produce an unmatched sound that will light a fire in your holiday season. The collected ensemble includes four trumpets, four French horns, four trombones (with bass trombone) and a tuba along with piano, bass and percussion.
“The ensemble’s lively repartee, touched with humor and personality, delights audiences with boisterous fun and an enthusiastic love of music,” said Silver Center Director Diane Jeffrey.“This will be a great show for the whole family.”
The concert, conducted by brass master Sam Pilafian, features charts made popular by the Stan Kenton Orchestra and is performed with the powerful sound of 13 horns and a jazz rhythm section. Look for tunes like Good King Wenceslas, Greensleeves, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, The Holly and the Ivy, Motown Jingle Bells and Kenton’s famous arrangement, A Christmas Medley.
“The Boston Brass pulls off these charts with powerful style and grace,” according to All About Jazz. “There is a momentum behind all of these arrangements that vibrates the heart and truly celebrates the season.”
Tickets are $30-25 adults, $28-23 seniors, $25-20 youth and $8-5 for PSU students with I.D., at the Silver Center Box Office, (603) 535-ARTS. Tickets are available online at http://silver.plymouth.edu. Sound clips are available at www.bostonbrass.com.
