PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Bobbi Dennison (Freeport, Maine) registered four goals and one assist Sunday afternoon to lead Bowdoin College to a 15-7 victory over Plymouth State University in a non-conference women’s lacrosse game at Arold Field.
The Polar Bears, ranked #5 in the nation in Division III, stopped a brief two-game losing skid, including a setback Saturday at #2 Middlebury, and improved to 8-2 overall. PSU had its five-game winning streak snapped and fell to 5-4.
Bowdoin jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes and maintained the advantage the rest of the way. The Panthers pulled to within one goal (5-4) with 12:55 remaining in the first half, but the visitors scored the last two goals before the break and the first two of the second half to go up 9-4. After a PSU score at the 26-minute mark, the Polar Bears tallied the next five goals to put the game away.
Joining Dennison in the scoring department for Bowdoin were junior Kate Donoghue (Plandome, New York) with three goals, senior Brooke Nentwig (Avon, Conn.) and sophomore Bridget Keating (Short Hills, N.J.) with two goals apiece, and junior Jill Steigerwald (Rutland, Vt.) with a goal and two assists. Senior Jena Davis (Lexington, Mass.), junior Jenna Pariseau (Forest Hill, Md.) and freshman Emily Straus (Washington, D.C.) also collected goals for the winners.
Senior Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.) led the home team with three goals, while junior Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) contributed a pair of goals and classmates Meg Cupoli (Southboro, Mass.) and Annie Pinault (Framingham, Mass.) added one each.
Bowdoin sophomore goalies Steph Collins-Finn (Menands, N.Y.) and Kat Popoff (Old Lyme, Conn.) combined for 11 saves, while PSU netminders Sarah Beebe (Rumson, N.J.) and Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) teamed up to make 14 saves.
PSU faces another NESCAC school Tuesday with a visit to Colby (5:00 p.m.) Bowdoin returns home to host Trinity next Saturday (1:00 p.m.)
