PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.) and sophomore Liz Boddy (Brentwood, N.H.) combined for 11 goals Saturday afternoon to lead the Plymouth State University women’s lacrosse team to a 20-8 non-conference victory over Bridgewater State College at rainy Arold Field.
Brown matched her career-high with six goals while assisting on another, and Boddy reached her career best with five goals. They led PSU to its third straight victory, improving to 8-4 overall, while BSC dropped to 3-7.
It was a tight game in the first half, with the score tied 4-4 at the 17-minute mark and PSU leading 9-6 at halftime. The Bears scored the first two goals of the second half to pull to within one, but the Panthers wouldn’t allow another goal the rest of the way while rattling off 11 unanswered goals for the win.
Sophomore Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) and junior Nicole Evans (Scituate, Mass.) each contributed four points to the Panther offense, MacDonald with two goals and two assists and Evans with a goal and three assists. Junior Caitlyn Irving (Avon, Conn.) added three goals, sophomore Meg Cupoli (Southboro, Mass.) chipped in with two, and sophomore Amanda Spadafora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) finished with a goal and two assists. MacDonald also led PSU with nine ground balls and five draw controls.
Junior Corinne Baker (Mansfield, Mass.) led the Bears with three goals, while sophomore Erica Murphy (Weymouth, Mass.) and senior Kim Carlson (Westwood, Mass.) scored two goals apiece and freshman Alison Gugliotta (Norwood, Mass.) chipped in with one.
The win was no doubt special for PSU head coach Paula Habel, a 2003 graduate of Bridgewater State and former All-Star for the Bears.
PSU wraps up the regular season Sunday with a make-up game at Southern Maine (1:00 p.m.) BSC concludes its regular season Tuesday at Western New England (4:00 p.m.)
