PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior quarterback Mike Mikolaichik (Hilton, N.Y.) rushed for 94 yards and a pair of touchdowns Saturday afternoon to lead Buffalo State College to a 26-0 victory over Plymouth State University in a non-conference football game at Currier Field.
Mikolaichik rushed for a five-yard score in the first quarter, and rumbled 51 yards to a TD in the second quarter to give the Bengals all the points they would need. He added a 49-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter to junior Jeff Shostak (East Smethport, Pa.).
Buffalo State has won two straight and three of its last four to improve to 3-5 overall, while PSU dropped to 1-7.
Mikolaichik’s first score was set up when PSU fumbled inside its own 10-yard line. The second Bengal TD was a 78-yard, three-play drive, including a 32-yard pass play from Mikolaichik to Shostak and Mikolaichik’s 51-yard scoring scamper. Buffalo State also earned two points when junior Joe Frawley (Lockport, N.Y.) blocked a PSU punt out the back of the end zone, and Shostak’s TD late in the second quarter gave the visitors a 23-0 halftime lead.
The only scoring of the second half was a 34-yard field goal by Buffalo State junior Eric Buchanan (Hamburg, N.Y.).
The Bengals finished with 327 yards of total offense. The PSU offense struggled, managing only 112 yard and turning the ball over three times. Freshman Jeff Mack (Milford, N.H.) was the Panthers’ leading rusher, gaining 62 yards on 16 carries.
Senior Perry Taglienti (Depew, N.Y.) led the Bengals’ defense with 11 tackles, including nine solo stops. Junior David Barabas (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) added eight tackles, including two sacks, and a fumble recovery.
Freshman Tyler McAniff (Epping, N.H.) had a strong day for the Panther defense, making a team-high eight tackles and forcing two fumbles.
PSU plays its final game of the season next Saturday at Mount Ida (1:00 p.m.). Buffalo State returns home to host Thiel (Pa.) next Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
