Building an Historical Timeline

June 6th, 2001 by Adam

Do you have Plymouth Normal School, Plymouth Teachers College or Plymouth State College physical education or athletic-related items (athletic or school uniforms, tunics, kilts, shorts, sneakers) or athletic equipment that might be donated or loaned to the Plymouth State College Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department (HPER) for display? Do you have items from the Draper and Maynard Sporting Goods Company in Plymouth? Do you have any information about the whereabouts of the “Lucky Dog” that once adorned the front of the Draper and Maynard Building on North Main Street?

The HPER Department at Plymouth State wishes to capture, preserve and celebrate the department’s history, and that of the former Draper and Maynard factory building in which they reside. To do so, they are creating an historical timeline of the department and its programs from 1872 to the present. There has always been a strong relationship between athletics and physical education at PSC, particularly in the very early years, so athletics will also be included in this project, as will transformations in the D & M building over the past century.

The project will culminate with an open-house celebration in the fall. If you have information that will help with this project, or goods to donate or loan the HPER Department, contact the department chair Dr. Julie Bernier by phone at (603) 535-2915 or via e-mail to
Items loaned to the department will be returned.
