CASTLETON, Vt. – Plymouth State College’s women’s tennis team came up one point short from taking home its fourth straight win on Monday, dropping a 5-4 decision against Castleton State.
Freshman Katie Olsen (Reading, MA) suffered her first loss of the season at the number one singles spot. After starting the season at 5-0, Olsen was defeated by Spartan Lisa Terwilliger, 6-4, 6-4.
The Panthers won two out of six singles and two out of three doubles matches. Single victories went to junior Becky Stanley (Peterborough, NH) at No. 3 and freshman Cally Thorup (Cumberland, ME) at No. 6. Stanley and Olsen were also victorious at No. 2 doubles.
The only other win for the Panthers went to sophomore Stacy Wright (Harwich, MA) and Thorup, who won at the No. 3 doubles spot, 8-3.
The Panthers, 4-3, are at Southern Maine this Wednesday (Oct. 4) and away again on Saturday (Oct. 7) at Rhode Island College. PSC plays at home next Monday (Oct. 9) against Saint Anselm (3 p.m.).
