The Music Theatre Company of Plymouth State University will present City of Angels, a Tony Award-winning musical by Cy Coleman, April 14 – 17 at the Silver Cultural Arts Center. The play, which features a jazzy score and interweaving plots, is told through the stories of two men: a 1940s Hollywood screenwriter named Stine (played by senior Matt Posner) who is on a quest to write the perfect detective story screenplay and his fictional detective, Stone (played by junior Ryan Sturgis) who comes to life.
Director/choreographer Kate Arecchi calls City of Angels a production with “something for everyone,” from film noir influences and 1940s glamour to a unique musical style combining big band jazz and vocal quartets. The actors will be accompanied by a jazz orchestra comprised of PSU students and faculty members, led by guest conductor Jim Cheeseborough.
City of Angels opens Thursday, April 14. Show times are April 14 -16 at 8 p.m., with matinees Saturday, April 16 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, April 17 at 3 p.m. Tickets prices are $17 for adults, $15 for seniors and $7 for youth, with discounts for PSU students.
