David Kent (Business/Criminal Justice)
and three undergraduate criminal justice
students attended the Academy of Criminal
Justice Sciences 2003 conference in
Boston recently. Nathan McCarthy, James
Mazzuchelli and Cristen Morressy
presented at a panel on “Police and
Community Issues” with work from their
longitudinal study on the complementary
nature of the public criminal justice
system with the private judicial system of
our college within our community. The
students learned how agencies should
modify existing policies after discovering
that their long-held beliefs were not
supported by the data. In their study the
students found no difference in the rates of
recidivism and thus concluded that both
judicial systems, public and college, have
the same impact upon offenders.
