BRUNSWICK, Maine – The 20th-ranked Colby College men’s lacrosse team got the season off to a good start Saturday with a 13-3 victory over Plymouth State College in a non-conference game played at Bowdoin College.
Senior midfielder Trenholm Boggs (Arlington, Va.) led Colby with four goals and one assist, while freshman attackman Troy Lieberman (Andover, Mass.) also had four goals. Junior Joshua Cleaver (Kennett Square, Pa.) added three goals and one assist, and sophomore Eric Seidel (Durham, N.H.) tallied a goal and two assists.
The Mules led only 1-0 after the first quarter, but put up six goals in the second period to take control and maintain a 7-0 lead at intermission.
PSC scored three goals in the second half, one each by junior Sam Harding (South Berwick, Maine) and seniors Ken McGuire (Wayland, Mass.) and Jason Biedrzycki (Amherst, N.H.).
PSC freshman goalie Michael Rodrick (Plaistow, N.H.) made eight saves in his collegiate debut. Three Colby goalies combined for 13 saves.
Colby finished 11-5 last season and made it to the finals of the NESCAC Tournament. PSC is coming off a 4-10 campaign.
Plymouth State is idle for the next 11 days, returning to action during the team’s spring trip to Disney World in Orlando, Fla. PSC will face Skidmore College on Wednesday, Mar. 19, at 7:00 p.m.
