PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Colby-Sawyer College’s women’s volleyball team remained undefeated on the season Tuesday evening by defeating Plymouth State University, 3-1, at PSU’s Foley Gymnasium.
The Chargers took the opening game, 31-29, but PSU came back to win the second game, 30-26. CSC put the match away by winning the next two games, 30-27 and 30-24, improving to 4-0, while the Panthers drop to 7-2.
Colby-Sawyer was led by the trio of juniors Kathy Couture (Greenfield, Mass.), Anne Coulter (Hudson, N.H.) and Ashley Lorance (Pembroke, Mass.), who combined for 30 kills. Couture had 11 kills, Coulter added 10, and Lorance chipped in with nine. The defensive effort was led by junior Amy Tarte (Meredith, N.H.), sophomore Jessica Niebuhr (Manitou Springs, Co.) and senior Karen Tryon (Tilton, N.H.), who combined for 45 digs.
Juniors Becky Ciulla (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Kelly Landry (Nashua, N.H.) were the top players for PSU, Ciulla registering 24 kills and nine digs and Landry contributing 14 kills and 14 digs. Junior Kim Krause (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) added seven kills and nine digs.
Plymouth State opens Little East Conference action this weekend at an LEC Round-Robin at the University of Southern Maine, beginning Friday at 7:00 p.m. Colby-Sawyer plays its home opener Thursday against Rivier College (7:00 p.m.).
