“Langdon Woods is on time and on budget,” states Bill Crangle, PSU’s vice president for financial affairs. Crangle says the milder than normal fall and heavy rains set-back certain aspects of the new 347 bed residential complex scheduled to open fall 2006, but that overall it was right on target. The entire framework was scheduled to be wrapped in plastic by the end of December 2005 so interior construction could begin.
As Langdon Woods construction progresses towards opening, Mary Lyon Hall is preparing to shut down. During the 2006 – 2007 academic year Mary Lyon will be completely renovated. Outside, the west entrance will be raised so it is ground level and not sunken, making it ADA compliant. There will be more green space, and two additions on either end of the building will enclose fire escapes.
Inside, an elevator will be installed, as well as a brand new heating system. There will also be all new electric, data, cable and phone lines run throughout the building.
“Aside from the exterior changes to the west side of the building, Mary Lyon won’t look any different,” explains Crangle. “The basic character of the building will remain the same, as the renovations call for keeping the building as close to the original as possible.” Mary Lyon will close at the end of the spring semester.
