Deb LeBlanc, program support assistant in the residential life office at Plymouth State University, is the 2005 Distinguished Operating Staff Award recipient.
Deb has been an active member of the the Plymouth community for 35 years,and began her career at Plymouth State in 1972. She joined the residential life staff in 1973.
One nominator wrote, “Deb has an outstanding relationship with the students. She believes in sitting down with students on an individual basis to resolve their problems, and she brings a level-headed opinion to otherwise stressful situations.”
In March, Deb traveled by van with eight students to Roosevelt Warm Springs, Georgia, as volunteer staff advisor for a week of service at a rehabilitation center during Alternative Spring Break.
As a member of the Plymouth community, she has served as president of the Plymouth Professional Women’s Club, helping to raise scholarships for local graduating high school seniors. She has also been a volunteer for Plymouth Regional High School ski meets, at the local Senior Center, Meals for Many and Project Care, a NH Electric Cooperative project that assists families in need to pay their electric bill.
Throughout her Plymouth State career, Deb has been extensively involved in operating staff governance, and has served on numerous OS and University committees. She has served as an operating staff senator and treasurer, and for the past 10 years has been operating staff representative to the University System Personnel Policy Committee.
In presenting the award, President Wharton said, “I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this recognition than Deb LeBlanc. … She is truly an inspiration for others, and she always represents the University in the best possible way.”
Accepting the award Deb said, “I’m so fortunate to work with everyone in the Residential Life Department. Without their great support, I’m not sure I’d be here today.”
Each of the 22 nominees for the Distinguished Operating Staff Award was officially recognized at the ceremony. President Wharton thanked all the operating staff for their great spirit and their many contributions to the University.
