Drerup Gallery, Silver Center and Lamson Library host Exhibitions

The Karl Drerup Art Gallery entered fall with a very special exhibition celebrating the art and rich legacy of Karl Drerup, founder of the Art Department at Plymouth Teachers College, who was renowned as an artist, craftsman and mentor. Enchanted Garden: Enamels by an American Master is a comprehensive exhibition that returns the work of this American Master to public view through October 27.

Several gallery events enhance the exhibition, including “Lunch with Karl,” September 19 and October 16 at noon. Art faculty Susan Tucker and Terry Downs and Director of Exhibitions Catherine Amidon will lead the discussion. The Ashland Garden Club will present an Art in Bloom display in coordination with works in the exhibition September 27 – 29.

Drerup Gallery is located in the Draper & Maynard Building on North Main Street in Plymouth. Hours are Monday – Saturday, noon – 5 p.m.; Wednesday until 8 p.m. and by appointment. The Gallery is closed on PSU holidays. Call 535-2614 for information or logon to www.plymouth.edu/gallery.

Art exhibits in the Silver Center Lobby during the fall include the Annual Faculty Show through October 13, which showcases faculty as productive, successful artists, and provides a vital critical and creative conversation between the art department faculty and the greater PSU community. The exhibition celebrates and honors faculty as active artists and cultural agents.

Silver Center Lobby hours are Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, noon – 6 p.m. The Silver Center is located on Main Street in Plymouth.

Kurt Brian Webb: War—Dance of Death in Black, White and Blood Red All Over is at Lamson Library, September 12 – December 20. Each two-color print is superimposed over a contemporary news story relating to death and the war in Iraq. Webb will be visiting the Art Department and sharing his thoughts about his work, subjects,process and content in D&M 301 the following morning, Thursday September 13 from 9:30-11:30. Everyone is invited and urged to attend.
