Carleen Graff, professor of music at Plymouth State University, will give a piano recital alongside her former teacher, David Karp, director of the National Piano Teachers Institute and professor of music at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
The duo will perform a variety of works for two pianos at 8 p.m., Tuesday, November 9, in the Silver Cultural Arts Center (SCAC). The concert is free and open to the public.
Dr. Karp will also hold a master class from 9 a.m. – noon Wednesday, November 10, in Smith Recital Hall at SCAC.
A frequent adjudicator for competitions and evaluations throughout the U.S. and Canada, Dr. Graff has performed solo and chamber recitals in New England, the Midwest and Germany.
David Karp is a nationally known pianist, composer, educator, lecturer and author. He is professor of
music and director of the National Piano Teachers Institute at the Meadows School of the Arts. Dr. Karp was guest artist and clinician as well as commissioned composer for the South Dakota MTA State Convention in October 1999 and for North Dakota MTA in 2001.
He recently performed and recorded Simon Sargon’s Divertimento for Piano and Chamber Orchestra (Gasparo Records), which was released Spring 2003. His composition Old Man of the Mountainwill be included in the November 9 performance.
