PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University scored 15 runs in the first four innings Friday afternoon en route to a 15-7 victory over Colby-Sawyer College in a non-conference baseball game at Panther Park.
After the Chargers took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, PSU answered with four runs in the bottom of the first and five more in the last of the second. CSC added single runs in its half of the third and fourth innings, but the Panthers answered with two in the third and four more in the fourth to go up 15-5. After combining for 20 runs in the first four innings, the teams scored only two runs the rest of the way, both by the visitors in the final two innings.
Both teams pounded out 16 hits in the contest. Senior Adam Kobeski (Walpole, Mass.) led the Panthers with three singles and four RBI, and freshman Josh Roberti (Cranston, R.I.) also collected three hits, including a double. Sophomore Josh Labossiere (Lincoln, R.I.) and seniors C.J. Rousseau (Merrimack, N.H.) and Scott Begalle (Rumney, N.H.) had two hits apiece, with Rousseau capping the fourth inning rally with a two-out, three-run double.
Sophomore Ryan Lavelle (Middleboro, Mass.) earned the win for PSU with three scoreless innings of relief, allowing only three hits while striking out six.
Freshman Ryan Connolly (Littleton, N.H.) led all batters with four hits for the Chargers, including a double and two RBI. Junior Ben Warnick (Narragansett, R.I.) added two hits, including a double, and freshman Chris Gaeta (Lynn, Mass.) also had two hits, while freshman Chris Baker (Essex Jct., Vt.) cracked his first home run of the season.
PSU, 10-18, plays a Little East Conference doubleheader Saturday at UMass Boston (12:00 p.m.) Colby-Sawyer, 15-16, returns home to host Roger Williams Saturday in a Commonwealth Coast Conference twinbill (12:00 p.m.), the final games of the regular season.
