PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The stage is now set for the championship game of the 2004 ECAC Division III New England Field Hockey Championship game, presented by FieldTurf.
The title game will feature top-seeded Plymouth State University hosting second-seeded Wellesley College this Thursday (Nov. 18) at 1:30 p.m. at Arold Field. The contest was originally slated to be played last Sunday, but a series of weather postponements has backed the game up until Thursday.
PSU, 17-4 overall, advanced to the title game with a 4-1 first-round victory last Wednesday over eighth-seeded Worcester State, and a 3-0 semifinal triumph over fourth-seeded Babson College on Saturday. The Panthers were ready to host the championship match-up on Sunday.
Wellesley, 14-5, captured its first-round game with a 6-2 decision over seventh-seeded Simmons College, but its semifinal game against sixth-seeded Clark University was postponed over the weekend due to snow in Massachusetts. Wellesley edged Clark, 3-2, when the two met for the semifinal contest Monday night at Babson College, sending the Blue to Plymouth for the championship game.
PSU is making its 10th ECAC appearance in the ECAC Field Hockey Championship, and is seeking its second championship and first since 1987.
