PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two Plymouth State University student-athletes were honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tuesday, one in men’s ice hockey and one in football.
Junior Kyle Poirier (Concord, N.H.) was named ECAC Northeast Ice Hockey Conference Co-Player of the Week, and freshman Dan Fallon (Manchester, N.H./Central) was selected to the ECAC Division III Northeast Football All-Star Second Team as a defensive back.
|A 5’11”, 185-pound forward, Poirier scored two goals and one assist in PSU’s only game of the week, a 5-3 league victory at Nichols. He scored the first goal of the game early in the first period, assisted on a second period goal that put PSU up 3-1, and added an insurance goal in the third period to help PSU snap a five-game losing streak.
The Panther hockey team, 2-5-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the Northeast Conference, plays seven of its eight January games on home ice (Waterville Valley Ice Arena), beginning on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 9-10, against Buffalo State and Fredonia State, respectively. Both games begin at 6:00 p.m.
|A 5’8”, 166-pound safety, Fallon earns the ECAC regional honor after being selected Freedom Football Conference Defensive Rookie of the Year last month. He was regularly one of the Panther leaders in tackles this fall, finishing with 72 tackles to lead the team and rank seventh in the conference. Fallon made 55 solo stops while also contributing three pass breakups, one blocked kick, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He led the Panthers in tackles in five of the last six games, making at least 10 stops against Springfield, Bentley and WPI.|
