PLYMOUTH, N.H. – A pair of Plymouth State University student-athletes were recognized with top regional honors by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) on Tuesday, being named Athlete of the Week in their respective sports.
Sophomore Cait Anton (Woolwich, Maine) was selected the ECAC Women’s Division III Co-Swimmer of the Week, and senior Nick Pelotte (Bingham, Maine) was named ECAC Division III New England Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The awards, the first this season for Anton and the second for Pelotte, were for performances during the week ending Jan. 9.
A backstroke and freestyle specialist, Anton registered three individual victories in PSU’s 179-105 dual meet loss at Bentley College last Saturday. She won the 50-yard backstroke in 31.56 seconds, the 100-yard backstroke in 1:06.67, and the 100-yard individual medley in 1:10.77.
Anton set school records in the 100 and 200 backstroke as a freshman (1:05.52 and 2:19.24, respectively), and placed fifth in New England in the 200 and eighth in the 100.
A 5’10” guard, Pelotte received the top weekly ECAC New England honor for the second time, having also earned it in mid-December. He was also the Little East Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Pelotte led Plymouth State to a pair of home victories by scoring 28 points in both games. He made 11-of-23 field goal attempts last Tuesday in an 82-67 non-conference triumph over Bates, while adding five rebounds, four assists and a steal, and came back to hit 8-of-15 from the field and 10-of-12 from the line Saturday in a key 80-70 conference victory over Eastern Connecticut.
