BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College freshman Steph Wiese (Higganum, Conn.) continued her strong play Tuesday evening, leading the Power Gulls with 14 kills and seven digs in a 3-0 sweep (30-25, 30-21, 30-15) of Plymouth State University in non-conference women’s volleyball action.
The two teams were very evenly matched early on, trading points for most of the first game. EC took the lead for good at 24-23 and went on to win the first game 30-25. That set the tone for the remainder of the match as they outplayed the Panthers and rolled to the sweep.
EC also benefited from the play of Sara Moore (Guilford, Conn.), who had 12 kills and two blocks. Meghan Hall (Santa Cruz, Calif.) delivered 37 assists, six kills and 10 digs.
Junior Kaitlyn Collins (Mahwah, N.J.) led the Panthers with seven kills, while freshman setter Brianna Kleckner (Terryville, Conn.) finished with 20 assists.
The Gulls have won three straight matches to improve to 5-7 overall, while PSU has dropped three in a row to fall to 5-3. The Panthers return home for a Little East Conference Round Robin at Foley Gymnasium with Southern Maine and Western Connecticut, beginning at 12 noon. Endicott will play a Commonwealth Coast Conference tri-match with defending CCC champion Colby-Sawyer and Salve Regina Saturday in New London, N.H.
