Auditions Nov. 1-3 at PSU
PLYMOUTH, N.H.—The Educational Theatre Collaborative (ETC) announces auditions for its 16th season production, Godspell.
ETC’s 2009 production, The Wizard of Oz, won the Hippo Press Best of the Best Award for a live theatre show.
A family favorite, Godspell has been performed on Broadway, made into a film, and has been produced by various touring companies and internationally in Canada and Europe.
For ETC’s rendition of the musical, an intergenerational cast of young people and adults will take a turn at telling the story of Jesus’ life and teachings, as recorded in the “Gospel of Matthew.”
The tale is woven through storytelling, dance, and singing. The musical score, which was written by the award-winning composer, Stephen Schwartz, includes pop, folk, rock and vaudeville musical styles.
Godspell has been produced by various touring companies and internationally in Canada and Europe. There have been numerous revivals in North America over the years with many interpretations, appealing to wide audiences.
Auditions for this popular musical will be held:
- Sunday, Nov. 1 from 2–3:30 p.m. children grades 3¬–5; 4–5:30 p.m. for students grades 6–8 and 6:30–9:30 p.m. for high school and university students, faculty, staff and community members. Sunday is the preferred time for all children.
- Monday, Nov. 2 from 5–6:30 p.m. for students grades 3–8; and 7–10 p.m. for high school and university students, faculty, staff and community members.
- Tuesday, Nov. 3 from 5–10 p.m. for high school and university students, faculty, staff and community members.
Some children in grades three through five will be cast in an exciting circus pre-show to be performed prior to each Godspell performance. Expertise in circus skills such as juggling, unicycling, and tumbling are a plus.
All auditions take place at Plymouth State University’s Silver Center for the Arts on Main Street in Plymouth.
Children in grades 3-8 will be auditioned in groups and do not need to prepare anything in advance, or schedule an individual time.
High school and university students, faculty, staff and community members must come prepared with a song and schedule an audition time by calling Brenda Gleich at (603) 535-2803.
Everyone should wear loose, comfortable clothes and shoes for the auditions.
Rehearsals will take place in January, and performance dates for ETC’s production of Godspell are January 27-31, 2010 in Hanaway Theatre at the Silver Center for the Arts on the Plymouth State University campus.
ETC, a collaborative venture of the Plymouth State University College of Graduate Studies, Plymouth Elementary School and Friends of the Arts, welcomes and encourages people of all ages, both experienced and non-experienced, to audition for this community-wide theatre project.
