Visitors can expect an array of new events at Plymouth State University’s Family Weekend 2004, “We’ll Always Be Together,” October 22-24.
Families of PSU students are welcome to join in on the fun with theatrical and musical performances, annual Midnight Madness, athletic competitions and a variety of seasonal local activities.
The celebration begins Friday, October 22, with Casino Night in the Hartman Union Building Courtroom at 8 p.m., where students and families can win play money to exchange for prizes.
Midnight Madness will take place at Foley Gymnasium in the PE Center at 11:30 p.m. Men’s and Women’s basketball teams will commemorate the opening of the season with games, prizes and the annual slam dunk contest.
Families can register Saturday in the HUB Fireplace Lounge at 9 a.m. and stay for the Welcome Reception, where coffee and pastries will be served. Activities begin at 11 a.m. in the HUB Pawsway, with a selection of games and crafts.
Seasonal activities include all-day access to Loon Mountain’s gondola, a family hike to Rattlesnake Mountain at 11 a.m. led by the Outing Club, and a two-hour Mount Washington Cruise,
boarding at noon.
Dinner will be served buffet-style beginning at 5:45 p.m. in the HUB Courtroom. Dinner entertainment will be provided by illusionist magicians Jay and Lee, winners of the 2000 International Brotherhood of Magicians Gold Medal Stage Contest. Reservations, $18 per person including students, are required.
As a memento of this year’s Family Weekend, Old Time Family Photos with a 1950s theme will be taken at Sunday brunch, which will be served from 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. in Prospect Dining Hall. Reservations, $7 per person including students without a meal plan, are required.
The Art of Dining, based on America’s fixation with food, will be performed by students in the Silver Cultural Arts Center’s Hanaway Theater, Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 8:30 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets for the comedy are $12 adult, $10 senior and youth.
A musical Opera Showcase, performed by advanced PSU voice students, will be held in SCAC’s Smith Recital Hall Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. Tickets are $8 adult, $6 senior, $5 youth, and free for PSU students with a valid ID.
