Faculty members from Plymouth State University’s Business Department and Graduate Studies Department recently attended a conference of the New Hampshire chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), a leadership organization for middle and high school students. For the second year in a row, PSU awarded $1,000 tuition scholarships to the winners of FBLA competitions.
Cheryl Baker, the director of faculty and student services for the Graduate Studies Department, first became involved in FBLA events as a business and computer education teacher in Lincoln, N.H. The organization is a great experience for students who want to create and meet goals related to social, civic, financial and educational development, she says. Last month, Baker and business professor Brad Allen attended the annual conference, which showcases student talent through competitions in public speaking, job interviewing, computer applications and business finance.
This year, PSU awarded tuition scholarships to Jack Bouchard of Alvirne High School for a first place performance in the Impromptu Speaking competition, William Demars of Pelham High School for a first place performance in the Job Interview competition, Matt Veves of Alvirne High School for a first place performance in the Business Law competition and Apryl Susi of Alvirne High School for a first place performance in Accounting I.
