PLYMOUTH, N.H. – A pair of Plymouth State College football players were recognized by the Freedom Football Conference Monday after turning in strong
performances in last Saturday’s 34-33 last-minute loss to Coast Guard.
Seniors Jay Zinis (Manchester, N.H.) and Tim Boothroyd (Amesbury, Mass.) were named to the FFC Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season. Both
were FFC weekly honorees once in September.
A 6’0”, 185-pound wide receiver, Zinis caught five passes for a career-high 162 yards and two touchdowns in the setback to Coast Guard. His first TD (a 29-yarder)
gave PSC a 13-7 lead early in the second quarter, and his second TD (a 39-yarder) gave PSC a 33-27 lead with 2:45 remaining in the game. Zinis is PSC’s
second-leading receiver with 20 catches for 383 yards and five touchdowns, and he ranks third in the FFC in receiving TDs, fifth in receiving yards (54.7/game) and 10th in
A 6’0”, 225-pound linebacker, Boothroyd led the Panther defense against Coast Guard, making 15 tackles (14 solo). He had two tackles for loss (-8 yards) while
adding one pass defended and one interception (0 return yards). Boothroyd leads the conference in tackles with 85, and shares the team lead in interceptions with two.
The Panthers, 0-8, are looking to wrap up the season on a positive note in their last two games, beginning with a non-conference affair this Saturday (Nov. 9) at
Southern Connecticut (1:00 p.m.). The finale is Nov. 16 at home against FFC foe WPI.
