WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. – Sophomore John Whittemore (Ayer, Mass.) scored two goals and an assist Saturday to lead the Fitchburg State College ice
hockey team to a 5-2 victory over Plymouth State College in an ECAC Northeast Conference game at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
Fitchburg led 3-1 midway through the game, but PSC pulled to within before the end of the second period. The Falcons scored the only two goals of the final frame
to secure the victory, improving to 10-11-2 overall and 8-6-1 in the conference. PSC drops to 4-17-1 and 4-10-0.
The two teams traded first period goals, with sophomore Greg Horan (Hyde Park, MA) scoring for Fitchburg State and sophomore Aaron Fifield (Northfield Falls, Vt.)
getting the equalizer with a nifty goal on the power play for the Panthers.
Whittemore notched the next two goals of the game, coming at 1:31 and 6:53 of the second period. PSC freshman Garrett Dionne (Clarence Center, N.Y.) tallied
PSC’s second goal at 13:41, but PSC could get no closer. Fitchburg closed out the scoring with a pair of third period goals by junior Jeff Brodeur (Townsend, Mass.) and
freshman Mark Barravecchio (Westwood, Mass.).
PSC junior goalie Larry Forgue (Nashua, N.H.) was pelted with 53 shots on goal, but came up with 48 saves. Sophomore Jason Holt (Fitchburg, Mass.) made 22
stops for the Falcons.
PSC gets back into action Monday with a conference road game against Tufts (7 p.m.), while Fitchburg plays against Thursday at Suffolk (7:45 p.m.).
