Focus on Photography

October 27th, 2004 by Adam

November has been tagged “Focus on Photography” by the exhibitions program of the Karl Drerup Art Gallery.

Abstractions of Nature: Photos by Nancy Hellebrand is the featured exhibition in the Karl Drerup Art Gallery November 10 – December 11. Hellebrand’s photographs feature images of water and clouds that are digitally retouched to help the artist more closely express her experience of the particular moment. A gallery reception will be held from 4 – 6 p.m. November 10.

A computerized PowerPoint™ presentation from the meteorology program cloud boutique will be installed adjacent to the exhibition. A tutorial about clouds can be found on the meteorology Web http://vortex.plymouth.edu/clouds.html.

There will be an Art in Bloom display by the members of the Ashland Garden Club December 2 – 4. Designers will each select a piece and create an original display based on Hellebrand’s work.

Three talks on photography will be featured during the month, and a student photography exhibit will be held adjacent to the Drerup Gallery in the Draper & Maynard Building.

Photographer Arno Minkkinen will offer a “Mid-point Report” of his 35 years in photography – from copywriter on the Minolta account in a New York advertising agency to the current work with mural-sized works shown recently at Tibor de Nagy Gallery in New York and Robert Klein Gallery in Boston at 4 p.m. Tuesday, November 9.

Boston photographer Lou Jones will talk about using photography to influence the creative, social, political and economic aspects of daily and long-term objectives. Jones will present “Designing Your Life” at 4 p.m. Thursday, November 18.

PSU adjunct faculty member Chehalis Hegner will wrap up the month of presentations with a gallery talk about photography at 4 p.m. Monday, November 22. Hegner is also organizing an exhibition of student photographs for the lobby of the Draper and Maynard Building.

Each talk and exhibition is free and open to the public. For information call the Karl Drerup Art Gallery, 535-2646.
