The Plymouth State College Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo will perform at 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 6 at the Silver Cultural Arts Center. Admission is $1 with all proceeds going to the Jazz Scholarship Fund at PSC.

The Jazz Ensemble is directed by Maureen Horgan, and the Jazz Combo by PSC alumnus Don Williams. Featured guest soloist will be saxophonist Rik Pfenninger, director of jazz studies at PSC, playing a new work that was written for him by Howard Rowe, a composer and arranger for Barnhouse Publishing.

Other works on the program are by Arturo Sandoval, Thad Jones, Thelonious Monk, Oliver Nelson, Maynard Ferguson, the Count Basie Band and others.

Rik Pfenninger has performed with Randy Brecker, Chris Valada, Marvin Stamm, the Righteous Brothers, the Supremes, the Temptations and the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra. With five jazz recordings, recordings for the National Geographic Television Series and New Hampshire Public Television, and countless clinics and solo appearances, Pfenninger is in demand as a guest soloist and clinician. He is also very active in MIDI technology and film scoring.

Maureen Horgan is new to PSC this year, but has spent the past 17 summers playing with the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra. A long-time Boston freelance trombonist, she has also played with the Jazz Hawaii Big Band, the Jazzabelles and the East Bay Jazz Ensemble, and has backed Henry Mancini, Jackie Byard, Phil Wilson and Brian Wilson.
